Washington Post: "Few clarinetists play with such love, intelligence and delight in their instrument's capacities..." (Tim Page)
I enjoyed every moment at the MasterWorks Clarinet Intensive program! The amount of individual attention we were given over the two weeks was incredibly helpful because our instructor was able to really know our playing ability. I learned so much about my own playing and was challenged to be even better throughout my time at WISP. One of my favorite parts was how the instructors incorporated our faith into our music lessons. The testimonials throughout the weeks were inspiring and have helped me grow as a continual follower of Christ. (Julia Janda, MM, DePaul University)
Clarinet Intensive program at MasterWorks Festival will be held from July 1-July 14, 2018. Go to MasterWorks Festival website for details about applying, fees and auditions.
Apply by January 15, 2018 to receive an automatic $500 discount off the tuition fee of $2050!
Clarinet Intensive is designed for conservatory, university and advanced high school clarinetists motivated to refine their musical abilities through intense individual study, all within a collaborative Christian environment. Note: one does not need to be a Christian to attend, but attendance at Bible studies is required by the festival.
Clarinet Intensive is ideal for students desiring to refine fundamentals or learn new repertoire. 2-3 hours of practice time are scheduled each day, along with personal mentoring, a one-hour lesson with Mrs. Haskell per week, 2 mini-power-lessons of 15 minutes each, devotions, a mock audition, performance classes and recitals.
NEW for 2018! Clarinet Intensive PRIME - for students desiring to focus on learning a concerto, a group of excerpts or a group of solo works for Bb, A or E-flat clarinet. PRIME students receive two one-hour lessons per week with Mrs. Haskell, a coaching with another faculty member, and have fewer master classes to attend. An additional fee of $200 will apply for PRIME students.
Festival-wide spiritual activities occur throughout the day in an integration of faith and art. Bible study materials are geared towards biblical issues relating to artists. Small groups of students and faculty meet Monday through Thursday and are a requirement for all festival participants. Please refer to the spiritual life section on the MasterWorks website for more information.
Students will receive the most benefit at Clarinet Intensive by bringing upcoming repertoire for study. Mrs. Haskell will be happy to assist in choosing repertoire based on conversations with each student prior to coming to MasterWorks.
Specialized classes will include topics such as:
• Anxiety and Nerves from a Christian perspective
• Eb Clarinet excerpts and solo repertoire
• Auditions: Practical Help for Succeeding
• Reed Work
Clarinet Intensive is open to qualified students ages 17-28 at time of festival. Students will be selected after video auditions. Audition requirements: three contrasting movements of works (one work may be an etude such as Rose or Jean-Jean) sent as a video, no more than 10 minutes of music needed. See the application page on the MasterWorks Festival for more details.
Early application date deadline is January 15, 2018, and includes a large tuition discount. After January 15, applications will still be accepted as space permits. Apply now! NOTE: Apply through Wind Intensive Study Program on the drop down menu.
