Washington Post: "Few clarinetists play with such love, intelligence and delight in their instrument's capacities..." (Tim Page)

"The MasterWorks Clarinet Intensive really helped me grow in my musical technique as well as in my faith. Diana Haskell is so special because she is able to create a wonderful balance between being a spiritual mentor and being an assertive clarinet teacher. Her vast experience of playing Eb clarinet professionally also gave us the opportunity to learn how to make the Eb clarinet an amazing auxiliary to play."  (Laura Hundert, Eastman School of Music, Clarinet Intensive Student, 2015)

I enjoyed every moment at the MasterWorks Clarinet Intensive program! The amount of individual attention we were given over the two weeks was incredibly helpful because our instructor was able to really know our playing ability. I  learned so much about my own playing and was challenged to be even better throughout my time at WISP. One of my favorite parts was how the instructors incorporated our faith into our music lessons. The testimonials throughout the weeks were inspiring and have helped me grow as a continual follower of Christ. (Julia Janda, Artist Diploma, UMKC, Clarinet Intensive 2015)

Clarinet Intensive program at MasterWorks Festival will be held from July 3-July 17, 2016. Go to MasterWorks Festival website for details about applying, fees and auditions.

Clarinet Intensive is designed for conservatory, university and advanced high school clarinetists motivated to refine their musical abilities through intense individual study, all within a collaborative Christian environment. Note: one does not need to be a Christian to attend!

Clarinet Intensive is ideal for students desiring to learn or master solo, recital, audition or concerto repertoire. Students may also use their time in refining fundamentals. Three hours of practice time are scheduled each day, along with personal mentoring, two private lessons per week, devotions, a mock audition, performance classes and recitals. To optimize practice time, clarinet chamber groups will be assigned as time permits.

Festival-wide spiritual activities occur throughout the day in an integration of faith and art. Bible study materials are geared towards biblical issues relating to artists. Small groups of students and faculty meet Monday through Thursday and are a requirement for all festival participants. Please refer to the spiritual life section on the MasterWorks website for more information.

Students will receive the most benefit at Clarinet Intensive by bringing upcoming repertoire for study. To optimize practice and performance time, clarinet chamber groups will be assigned only if time permits. Mrs. Haskell will be happy to assist in choosing repertoire based on conversations with each student prior to coming to MasterWorks.

Specialized classes will include topics such as:

•    Intelligent Practice
•    Anxiety and Nerves from a Christian perspective
•    Eb Clarinet fingerings
•    Auditions: Practical Help for Succeeding
•    Reed Work

Clarinet Intensive is open to qualified students ages 17-26 at time of festival. Students will be selected after video auditions. Click HERE for audition and application requirements.

Early application date is February 15, 2016. After February 15, applications will still be accepted as space permits. Apply now!  NOTE: Apply through Wind Intensive Study Program on the drop down menu.
